Bell's Palsy
Bell’s Palsy is the paralysis of facial structures due to damage to the facial nerve. It can occur at any time and any age for no apparent reason. The facial nerve is responsible for the motor function of the muscle on one side of the face. Damage to the facial nerve would result in ipsilateral facial drooping to a certain degree. In certain cases, the eye of the affected side can not close, leading to permanently damaged cornea and eventual impaired vision. Sometimes, eye drops are used to moisten the eyes since the eyelids can no longer close.
Some complications of Bell’s Palsy can include irreversible damage to facial nerve and involuntary contraction of certain muscles.
